Thomson Fontaine Blames Roosevelt Skerrit for Exodus of People from Dominica

The political leader of the United Workers Party, Dr. Thomson Fontaine, said PM Roosevelt Skerrit should be blamed for the exodus of people from Dominica. Fontaine said life is hard for the people because the prime minister and members of his administration are living an opulent lifestyle.

According to the UWP leader, until the government makes life easier for the people by providing employment, security, and social infrastructure, people will continue to migrate out of Dominica in search of greener pastures. Fontaine lamented that it is a tragedy when an Island of 70,000 people is losing its people to other countries due to poverty.

The opposition leader argued that the small population of Dominica and its rich natural resources, everyone in the country should enjoy a high standard of living. But he said reverse is the case since skilled people are leaving the country droves to seek employment outside. He contended that it is even difficult convincing employed people to stay on their jobs since they have their eyes set on better opportunities outside Dominica.

Fontaine said that one of the ways to curtail the migration problem is to implement electoral reforms across the country. He said the DLP administration must be voted out of power for the UWP to be able to restore the glory of Dominica and its peoples. He also tasked the people to rise up for their rights and to cooperate with the opposition to achieve economic and political change in the country.
