Tourism Minister Applauds PAYS & Yachting Festival Slated For March 19-26
The Minister of Tourism, Denise Charles, has applauded the Portsmouth Association of Yachting Services (PAYS) for organizing a spectacular yachting festival slated for March 19-26. Tagged “Celebrating Yachting in our Communities,” the celebrations is put together by PAYS stakeholders in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism.
Charles expressed optimism that the yachting festival will complement the government’s efforts to position Dominica as the premier ecotourism destination in the Caribbean. She said the efforts will increase tourists’ visits to the Island and boost tourism revenue and economic activity across the country. She said the government wants every visitor to Dominica to look forward to returning again at the earliest opportunity.
We have identified the Yachting sector as a crucial sector on our quest to increase visitor arrivals and position Dominica as the premier ecotourism destination in the region. We want every guest in Dominica to have a taste of our beautiful country, an experience that will ensure that they will visit us every year and invite friends to come to share and bask in the wonders of nature.

The tourism minister expressed gratitude to PAYS and other yachting stackholders for all they do to uplift the sector. She said they have worked over the years to build and nurture as well as promote greater potentials in the sector, telling them that “we have to applaud them for their hard work. You have solidified relationships, traveled to the trade shows, and promoted your country, particularly the historic Prince Rupert Bay.”
The president of PAYS, Andrew O’Brien, disclosed that the opening dinner would hold at Cabrits, Kempinski, and thanked the government for supporting the approaching yachting festival. He also itemized the other activities that are planned alongside the coming festival, adding these will boost government revenue in several ways.
