Upon their return to Dominica, the athletes who had displayed tremendous sporting prowess at the Special Olympics World Games were met with a wave of joy and pride from the residents of the Kalinago Territory. The Games, which took place in Berlin, Germany from June 17 to 25, 2023, and attracted over seven thousand athletes from 170 countries, aimed to combat prejudices through the power of sports and have been hailed a success.
Mr. Cassius Darroux, an ex-parliamentarian and president of the Salybia Labor Party Constituency Association, couldn’t contain his joy and pride. He commended the team on their incredible performance, particularly highlighting the five medals they brought back home. Darroux lauded the coaches and parents for their unwavering faith and commitment, which he believed underlined the power of determination in overcoming any boundary.
Darroux further extended his recognition to Crispin Darly, Machael Detouch, Alexia Wade, Agar Auguiste, Ricky Barry, and Melissa Dupigny for their excellent representation of Waitukubuli’s ‘First People’. He declared their success not merely as a personal victory but one for the entire Kalinago community, naming them the community’s heroes and ambassadors.
In conclusion, Darroux expressed his anticipation of future accomplishments from these athletes and others in the community. He stressed the importance of acknowledging the Lord and utilizing our talents for the positive impact on others and for the glory of His Name.
