Two More Imported Cases of COVID-19 Recorded; Contact Tracing Ongoing

Two more COVID-19 cases have been imported into the country by an asymptomatic 59-year-old female and a 35-year-old male. This was announced by national epidemiologist Dr. Shalauddin Ahmed who stated that Dominica now has six active coronavirus cases and a total of 24 positive cases.

Following their arrival to the country, the individuals underwent normal rapid tests to determine their infection status, and subsequent PCR tests confirmed them as COVID-19 positive. They have been in isolation since their arrival on September 5, and that the six contacts who related with the persons will be tested shortly for coronavirus too.

“One is a 59-year old female and the other is a 35-year old male,” Ahmed confirmed. “These individuals have been in isolation, since they arrived in Dominica on September 5th, as a result of a positive rapid test on arrival. Subsequently, PCR testing was done to confirm.”

Following the confirmation, the patients have been admitted to a COVID-19 treatment facility in Portsmouth. Meanwhile, the 14 contacts linked to Case Number 4 have been tested and they are returned negative to coronavirus.

Ahmed appreciated members of the public and health officials for their surveillance which made it possible to catch the coronavirus cases at the borders of entry into the country before local citizens are infected.
