Tyrone Theophile Airlifted to Martinique, he Can Now Breathe and Talk
Dominican cricketer, Tyrone Theophilus, has been taken off the ventilator and can talk after regaining full consciousness. This fact was revealed by his mother who remained at his sickbed at the intentive care unit of a hospital in Martinique. Theophilus, who was involved in a motorbike accident on Christmas Day in Roseau, suffered a fractured skull and was airlifted to Martinique where he had been in coma for two weeks until his recent improvement.
The captain of the Windward Islands Volcanoes team was put into induced coma so that he could be operated upon by a team of surgeons for his fractured skull. His mother, Gina Toussaint, said he has been taken off the ventilator and can now breathe on his own without difficulty, and that he utter his first few words in two weeks.
As proof that he was fully conscious and in control of his faculties, Ms. Toussaint said she instructed Tyrone to open his eyes, wriggle his toes, and squeeze his girlfriend’s hands if he could hear and understand everything. Toussaint said her son responded fully according to given instructions. She said he continues to make progress even though he is still being monitored at the intensive care unit.
“He is now breathing on his own from January 2, 2021 and no longer requires a ventilator and is making steady progress,” Tyrone’s mother revealed. “He is still in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and we are waiting on advice from the doctors. I can report that he is trying to speak but it is not clear, but he is fully conscious of his surroundings. We are keeping our fingers crossed and praying because we are still not sure what happens next and how things will be, but he is stable…”
Tyrone, 31, is from Pointe Michel and captained his team for several seasons. He played a total of 68 major matches and scored 3,055 runs at an average of 25.88. He also took 18 wickets at 34 runs each by his off-spin.
