Uniform Entry Protocols Will Facilitate Increased Tourism in the Caribbean
PM Roosevelt Skerrit said the Caribbean needs a “uniform set of health entry protocols” to facilitate the movement of tourists between islands. He said a simplified border requirement among countries within East Caribbean will help tourists to move from one country to another without undue restrictions.
According to Skerrit, when countries have differing travel requirements and entry protocols for tourists, visitors will not be motivated to visit multiple tourist destinations and this will keep revenue away. He said a harmonized entry system will give potential visitors a standardized information to work with when deciding to visit any regional country.
The Dominican leader said many islands in the Caribbean are similar even though each of them offer unique attraction experiences, and these differences should inform the tourist package that each country should market to the outside world. He added that a regional marketing approach will reshape tourism and reimagine travel experiences for people.
He made it clear that a regional dialogue on the future of tourism should be dependent on a collaborative marketing approach that thrives on creativity and tour innovativeness. He stated that this will keep the tourism and hospitality sector afloat and the economy of the region will be better for the newer approach.
