Unvaccinated and Asymptomatic COVID-19 Patients to Wear Red Bands

Unvaccinated and asymptomatic COVID-19 patients will begin to wear red bands for identification. This requirement, among others, is part of the revised isolation and quarantine protocols established by the Ministry of Health. Chief Medical Officer David Johnson launched the revised protocol on Monday, January 10, 2022.

Dr. Johnson revealed that almost 70% of coronavirus patients admitted for care in Portsmouth did not present any symptoms, or have very mild symptoms – a situation that may not require hospitalization if patients would isolate responsibly.

Under the revised protocols, the CMO said vaccinated and asymptomatic COVID-19 patients will be allowed to isolate at their various homes. He added that vaccinated and symptomatic patients could be admitted for treatment based on evaluations from a health professional.

Johnson clarified that patients will be admitted to the DCFH or COVID-19 Care Complex based on merit. He stated that based on medical evaluation conducted by a health professional, patients aged 55 years and above with underlying medical conditions may be admitted for admission to facilitate treatment.

He said patients who are not likely to adhere to isolation protocols at home may also be detained for admission at an approved government hospital. PM Roosevelt Skerrit expressed satisfaction with the revised isolation and quarantine protocols, adding that the spike recorded after the Christmas and New Year celebrations was expected and covered by the health ministry.
