Roseau South MP and deputy leader of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) Joshua Francis denies accusations in a divorce petition leveled against him by his wife. He held a press conference at the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) conference room flanked by top executive members of his party.
“Today, my wife through dangerous lawyers has filed a political divorce petition which has been deliberately leaked and caused to go viral on social media. This is the works and unceasing efforts of dangerous political ‘enemies’ who used my wife’s petition as a shield to protect their own and as a sword to dishonor my name. The latest unprecedented leak and release on social media comes on the heels of the leak and release of an email purported to be authored by my wife. Also, my accuser’s statement in the famous case of inappropriate behavior was leaked and caused to go viral in 2016. This public parade of materials, true or fake, cannot be normal or natural! And this cannot be allowed to become the new norm…how long will the other side go to feast with the darkness of the world?”
Francis stated that he entered the political arena in June, 2013, and “my family was right there with me; my beautiful wife and my two blessed children are indeed the blessings of my life.” “Today, my family is separated and my good name has been under ferocious and consistent attack. My service to our nation has resulted in profound personal losses as opposed to personal gains, just the opposite to the players on the other side,” he stated.
According to him, when he signed-up to serve the nation, he expected it to have been “tough, and demanding, but not dangerous and malicious for the wrong reasons”. “I have been dealt with a severe bout of prosecution and persecution. I have been referred to by all manner of unclean names; some even try to discard me with untrue legal tags even without any criminal charge ever
been read to me in any part of our globe, far less for a criminal trial and/or conviction. The constant malicious, unwarranted and evil attacks against me have come from all angles. The greatest plot to destroy my good name and reputation is rooted in a sexual scandal of 2016; inflamed attacks after attacks, with the most dangerous of all the attacks directed at my family to secure its disintegration by the very ones who go home to their families each day,” he remarked.
“How could you, in good conscience, preside over the destruction of my family? How could anyone gloat over the separation of my family as a victory to score political points? How could anyone rejoice when families fall apart? Where is the soul of the Dominica Labor Party?” he asked.
He continued, “Since the famous sex Scandal of 2016, my wife and I have gone through enormous emotional, mental, and psychological pressure for which I take full responsibility; resulting in my lovely wife being ill-advised to fight against me, not realizing that such a fight is against herself and our precious children. I plead to her to publicly to reconsider her actions and inactions-for I am not the enemy.”
“While I plead my innocence in all accusations against me, and I have a right to remain silent, I will not consent, nor shall I give in to the malicious attacks waged by the wicked people who are trying to destroy me and using my wife in an attempt to hurt me, my children and her. I will fight for my life and that of my wife, I will defend my family and I will do so until I have no more fight in me. For the Kalinago blood which flows through my veins together with the presence of the Holy Ghost drive me to successfully withstand all attacks, because
“To erase all doubts, let me say, that;
- I do not have a mistress, I never had one!
- I am not abnormal in any shape or form and
- I have never abused my family in any way, and
- I have never abandoned my family.
On the other hand, I treasure my family, my wife is my gift, my children are my most precious blessings and Mrs. Francis continues to be virtuous and beautiful in my eyes, and I will never give up on her. My family is all what I have! In addition to that I am glad to state that I work to keep families together and would not dare lead disintegration of any family far-less my own,” he said emotionally.
He also asks for public “forgiveness from my wife and children” stating that he love his wife and will “always love her, and my heart mind and soul are crying out for her good and success.”
“I pray for peace to rest on the hearts and minds of the evil doers; I request for the undying love of the creator to wash away the unintended pains and confusion which my actions and inactions I may have caused. I also forgive all those who are trying unsuccessfully to destroy me because it is in forgiving that we ourselves are forgiven,” he remarked.
He said that while attempts are being made to take all that he has away from him, he stands on the rock of Christ the solid rock with the hope that the good and most powerful creator will continue to sustain him.
“I will also not relent in the national fight for the restoration of good governance, and advancement of every single brother and sister on our nature Isle. This fight is for a cause far greater than mine. This fight is a fight for integrity in governance and state institutions; not individual and/or character-based distractions. I have done wrong, you have done wrong, we all have done wrong but there is the saving grace from the Lord Almighty which is ever present and willing to wash us clean,” he said.
He called on the people, to understand what is going on in Dominica…stating that attempts are being made to take “all that I have away from me, and this is being done right before your very eyes”. “Please understand why I stand today and why I fight with all my might to maintain that which I have worked for all my life. The attempts at ruining my reputation is an attempt to deflate my legal practice and not just my political career, how wicked…there can be decency in the prosecution of certain matters, but the opponents of truth do not want this. They try to shame us away with bloated and gloried versions of lies,” he stated.
According to Francis who is an attorney at law, “The other side would love to break me, but they can’t. If they could succeed in silencing me, they would; if they could put me aside, they would-but as long as am favored by God and not man, the efforts of the otherwise to harm me must continue in vain.”
Meantime, in a very interesting development, Francis disclosed that the Prime Minster of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit offered him money, license to sell passports, and legal work from bank/s to compromise his integrity, in exchange “to join the dark forces in politics, but I rejected all.”
“At some point I was given an ultimatum by someone of greatest importance in my life, “me or politics”, and I stood for you the people. I was not for sale and will never be for sale!
Instead today, I take a renewed pledge to work for you
My people, I love you and I seek to represent you with all my might and if I have to die for you, then let it be in Jesus name. Tell my accusers and prosecutors that their time is up and no amount of legal, political, economic, financial, sociological and spiritual machinations will steer us away from victory,” he said.
He continued, “As we move forward, we will clean up this attitude of tearing down people., we will break down barriers of division and live in a more harmonious Dominica, a country which will live up to its destined expectations, we will create the environment to build families, celebrate unity and to make Dominica the envy of the world!
Let me say that I am proud to be a member of the UWP and I shall do my utmost to support my honorable and esteem leader Lennox Linton and together with every member including those outside the UWP lines in quest to make Dominica the best place to live and work under a UWP government which hopefully will be installed at the next General elections.”
