UWP Launches Ezekiel Basil as Candidate for Wesley, Woodfordhill
UWP launched Ezekiel Basil as candidate for the Wesley, Woodfordhill and Palm Tree community. Speaking to a large crowd of supporters, Basil outlined his plans for the constituency and mentioned that a sum of $500,000 would be required for a pilot project that the entire community can identify with.
He said he has spoken with UWP leader Lennox Linton on the pilot project but is yet to get the green light. He went ahead to say the project will give the peoples of Wesley, Woodfordhill and Palm Tree a sense of personal identity and community awareness. He said it is not right to be denied $500,000 for a community project when one man can take $30 million CBI funds for personal initiatives.
“If one man can take $30 million from our CBI funds, I want to ask that the pilot project of $500,000 that we will identify with be granted us,” Basil said. “Brothers and sisters, when I’m done with this constituency, it will be the envy of the entire Commonwealth of Dominica.”
He said he will set up economies that will be social and economic to sustain the people in various areas of life; and that the projects will be futuristic in every form. He further said his development plans for the constituency will favour both young and old, and will make the community it can be in terms of job creation, social life, education, tourism, housing and accommodation, and healthcare among others.
He lamented the situation where the UWP has not implemented the electoral reforms the opposition has been asking for, and yet expects the coming general elections to be free and fair.
“Why are you giving one man who has refused to help us with electoral reform $30,000 a month, and he’s watching out people and giving them less than $1,000 a month?” he demanded.
