Veteran Journalist Shermaine Green-Brown Passes Away
Shermaine Green-Brown, Dominica’s well-known media personality, has passed away. She was a familiar voice at state-owned DBS Radio, where she served in various capacities, including acting General Manager and Program Director, leaving a lasting impact on the Dominican media landscape.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit praised Green-Brown as a “great Dominican” and one of the island’s most recognizable media voices. He noted her articulate and pleasant presence on the airwaves and acknowledged her lifelong dedication to serving Dominica and its people. “Shermaine Green was DBS and DBS was Shermaine Green,” he remarked, emphasizing her vital role in the country’s broadcasting history.
The media fraternity across Dominica and the wider region is mourning her sudden passing, which has come as a shock to many. Before her retirement in 2016, Green-Brown, who was married to OAS Ambassador to Dominica Paul Browne, had been a central figure at DBS Radio since 1977. She rose to become Programme Director and occasionally acted as General Manager, contributing significantly to programs such as DBS 13:15 (Total News) and the popular “Talking Point.”
Her son, Kyle Anthony Brown, expressed his shock at her sudden death in a Miami hospital, emphasizing that it was unexpected for both the family and the Dominican public. He highlighted the enduring legacy of his mother’s voice on DBS and her remarkable contribution to the nation’s media. Her unexpected passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew her, both personally and professionally.
