Vince Henderson rubbishes the idea about electoral reform.

Chairman of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) campaign team Vince Henderson rubbishes the idea about “electoral reform” for Dominica.

The opposition United Workers Party (UWP) the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) and another interest group on the island have been advocating for “electoral reform” in Dominica before the next general elections constitutionally due in 2020 but is expected to be called anytime soon in 2019.

Speaking at a DLP brief conference today April 26, 2019 to launch the DLP’s candidate for Grand Fond, Henderson had this to say on the subject. “I depart from my party when they talk about electoral reform. I don’t think that there is need for electoral reform. What I think needs to been done is for there to have continued enhancement of the electoral process so that as we move as a developing country we can enhance greater efficiency and accuracy on the electoral process,” he said.

He continued “Every report from every observer group has come to one conclusion that elections in Dominica have been free and fair. You only fix something that is broken; I won’t venture on the electoral reform process in Dominica.”

“Yes there are something to improve it but nothing is wrong with it, we need to be honest with ourselves the losing party have an issue with it the same process that got them to office in 1995,” he said.

He called the concerns of the UWP and other interest groups as “dishonest”. The DLP he says has started the process of “electoral reform but was stymied and hack jacked the process.”
