Vince Henderson Sworn Into Parliament; Skerrit Vows to Work with Him
Winner of the Grandbay November 25 by-election, Dr. Vince Henderson, has been sworn into parliament. He was sworn into parliament on November 29 after defeating two independent candidates with 1,230 votes.
Henderson thanked the people of Grandbay for voting for him and for supporting the DLP under the leadership of PM Roosevelt Skerrit. The former parliamentary representative for St. Joseph Constituency said he didn’t initially plan to contest the election, but circumstances played out in his favour and this necessitated his candidacy.
I am humbled to return to the Parliament once again. I did not plan to, but the occasion that has brought me there has put me in deep reflection; and I want to thank the people of Tete Morne, Montine, and Grand Bay for their warm welcome and hospitality, allowing me to visit their homes, their institutions, their churches, to meet them where they live, where they work, where they recreate, and to treat me as their brother, as a son, someone who is a member of their family.

PM Skerrit who staunchly stood behind Henderson during his candidacy and campaign expressed delight that he emerged the winner of the by-election. He thanked the Grandbay constituency for voting for Henderson and in extension, the DLP. He credited the new MP with advancing the government policies on renewable and geothermal energy.
Based on his contributions to this effort, we are at the cusp of realizing the source of energy from geothermal and I think history will certainly record Dr. Henderson contribution to this effort.
Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica
The prime minister said his administration will work with the new parliamentary member to formulate progressive policies for the people of Grandbay.
I say to them without any fear or contradiction that this Labour party will be there for the Grandbay Constituency. I will work with our new Parl Rep for Grandbay to ensure that we can make a difference in the lives of the people. I believe that we certainly will be formulating programmes and plans to ensure that we can respond to the concerns of this wonderful constituency.
Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica
The main opposition party, the UWP, did not field any candidates for the Grandbay by-election, citing political corruption. But the Skerrit said their failure to field a candidate means they have no regards for the people of Grandbay and their developmental interests.
