Warren Lawrence Comes 3rd At Commonwealth Games; But No Semi-Finals

Warren Lawrence, son of former Dominican Olympic swimmer Woodrow Lawrence, has come third at swimming at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK. Lawrence, 18, set two personal bests on Sunday at the Men’s 50-metre butterfly event and the Men’s 100-metre backstroke event.

The first swimmer to represent Dominica at the Commonwealth Games came third in the overall swimming competition, but would not proceed to the semi-finals.

Lawrence took the second lane and clocked 27.32 seconds to emerge third in the 50-meter backstroke event; overall, out of a total of 45 swimmers, he finished in the 27th position. He also clocked 53.59 seconds to emerge second in the 100-meter freestyle competition – finishing in the 45th position out of a total of 69 competitors.

He would not proceed to the semi-finals because the first 16 winners will take the slot.
Due to his loss, he noted that “I am definitely going to talk to my coach to see how I can fix my training to fit my needs.” Although he failed short of the semi-finals, he will still compete in the Men’s 100-metre backstroke event on Sunday.

Seven sporting officials and 11 athletes are currently at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games to represent Dominica in swimming, cycling, and athletics.
