We Will Apply Venue Security, Crowd Control and Traffic Management at CITP
Police will apply Venue Security, Crowd Control and Traffic Management at CITP. Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of Central Division, Leana Edwards, revealed that law enforcement authorities will apply “a three-phase approach” to managing situations at this year’s Creole in the Park (CITP).
The three-phase approach are venue security, crowd control, and traffic management.
According to Edwards, the venue of the event will be accessible through only two gates. These are the main entrance on Valley Road close to the Roseau Health Centre and the secondary entrance on Elmshall road close to the University of the West Indies. The north eastern gate between Elmshall Road and Valley Road shall be the VIP entrance.
“Patrons exiting the venue will do so on Valley Road by using the gate immediately behind the Botanic Gardens pavilion and also the Bath Road gate,” Edwards said. “All gates at the Botanic Gardens will be manned by police officers and support from private security.”
The senior police official also revealed that people will be frisked on entering the venue and no weapons will be allowed inside the place. Edwards said even patrons who are licensed firearm holders will not be permitted to enter the venue with firearms and anyone found with arms will be promptly arrested and prosecuted. She said it is better for members of the public to heed this warning than to face the embarrassment of public arrest.
Furthermore, police officers will also patrol the grounds to ensure that order is kept and nothing gets out of hand. The traffic management team will be on ground in Roseau to see everything is working according to plan.
Director of Tourism, Minchinton Burton, appealed to everyone attending the CITP to be law-abiding at the venue and to not drive cars across the open fields for any reasons. He urged everyone to cooperate with law enforcement officers and never to park cars at Botanic Gardens and its environs.
Together let’s make this year’s Creole in the Park the biggest and best of all other such events held in previous years by ensuring that we respect and protect our treasured Botanic Gardens which all of us continue to look forward to enjoying and using long after this 4-day event.
