A woman from Bense, Francian Joseph, has been charged with possession of guns and ammunitions without valid licences. Joseph was charged with possessing a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle, a semi-automatic AR-15 pistol, a 9mm Taurus G-2 series magazine, a 9mm Smith & Wesson magazine, 55 live 5.56 caliber ammunition, and 35 live 9mm rounds.
Magistrate Bernard Pacquette of the magistrate court in Portsmouth denied Joseph bail at her arraignment. Her boyfriend was also arrested and later released by the police after due investigation. The case was adjourned to March 2022.
In a related development, police prosecutors charged Anthony Mitchell of Fortune village with the November 25 kidnapping of Ivor Mitchell Augustus. Mitchell was arraigned before Magistrate Hansel Valerie and represented by Joshua Francis. Attorney Francis pushed for the court to grant his client bail, but Sergeant Vivian Augustine who led the prosecution objected on the grounds that Augustus is yet to be found and that the police is still investigating his whereabout.
Judge Valerie held that since the abducted person has not been found and that releasing the accused may interfere with ongoing police investigations, Mitchell must remain in prison custody and adjourned the case to March 24, 2022.
Similarly, Shamika Pollock and Clinton Austrie have been charged with robbing Huang Rung Teh, a Chinese national, during a burglary at his business facility from November 28-30. Austrie, from the Kalinago Territory, was charged with stealing cash and jewellery worth $16,692 during the burglary; while Pollock, a mother of seven from Castle Comfort, was charged with handling stolen goods which include a Samsung phone, gold ring, gold chain, and gold bracelets worth $11,896.
Pollock is represented by Attorney Joshua Francis and her bail was set at $20,000 with one surety. Francis pleaded with the court to release his client on humanitarian grounds but the judge turned down the request. Austrie was not represented by any lawyer and he claimed that he had no one to bail him. He was remanded in custody until he can perfect his bail conditions. The case was adjourned to March 25, 2022.
