Fifty-five participants at the Work Online Dominica Initiative are scheduled for graduation today. The online work programme was set up by the Ministry of Public Works, ISRAAID, and the UNDP. The virtual graduation ceremony is billed to hold on Facebook at 2:30 pm today, according to Robert Tonge, coordinator of the Dominica Digital Economy.
Tonge said 60 persons enrolled for the programme, but five dropped out due to some challenges while 55 ended up completing the programme. He said the participants were trained on how to generate legitimate income online and that they have mastered the skills of earning a decent living on the internet.
The programme coordinator added that 61% of the graduates have succeeded at generating some form of income on various platforms online, and that the empowerment initiative would go a long way at reforming people and making them responsible citizens of the country. He thanked the Dominican government, UNDP, and ISRAAID among other partners for their cooperation at making the programme a huge success.
“We’re very proud of the participants of the program; we’re very thankful for the UNDP and ISRAAID and the Government of Dominica for through the Ministry of Public Works, Digital Economy for putting this program together for our people to improve on their skills and earn an income,” Tonge said.
The Work Online Dominica programme was put together for persons between age 18-40 years as a pilot online empowerment initiative for all Dominicans.
