Work Online Dominica Pushes Frontiers on Freelancing For National Development

Training for the fourth edition of the Work Online Dominica initiative started on Wednesday. Started by the Ministry of Public Works in partnership with the UNDP, IsraAID, and the Dominica State College, the scheme is targeted at empowering all Dominicans for remote freelance opportunities.

While individuals would become largely independent as paid freelancers tapping into global job pools, the senior program officer of IsraAID-Dominica, Cornealia Guiste-Durand, said the initiative will also drive economic growth in Dominica. She said trained individuals will harness the necessary skills to work and get paid remotely, while also contributing to the development of the Nature Isle.

“With the launch of Work Online Dominica Freelance Training Program we are paving the way to a future where talent knows no boundaries, where innovation thrives, and where the people of Dominica will flourish in the digital age,” she disclosed. “By nurturing a community of skilled freelancers, we envisioned a future where remote will become a driving force behind the country’s progress.”

Guiste-Durand stated that the freelance training scheme will enable participants refine their skills in various fields where digital technology drives economic rewards. She said participants will also master effective communication with clients as well as grow to unlock the full potential of the online world. According to her, freelancers will also be able to make Dominica a hub for global talent and expertise when they excel at the programme.

Furthermore, the country director for IsraAID, Nicole King, stated that Work Online Dominica will breed a new generation of young Dominicans who are digitally savvy to earn a living online and to establish the economic framework for a dynamic and prosperous Dominica. She said Dominicans have the mental capacity and physical agility to thrive in the emerging digital economy and that the Work Online Dominica scheme will help them achieve this noble ideal.
